Daily Photo News and Journalism Roundup for Thursday, July 23, 2020
A daily compilation of photography, journalism, and content creation news and resources written or curated by Sean Sosik-Hamor. Not everything posted is breaking news but is something that piqued his interest while researching or fact-checking other stories. News Outlets Respond to AP’s Decision To Capitalize Black but Not White
By Sean Sosik-Hamor for Newsvoice
Associated Press on Monday announced that it will capitalize the word ‘Black’ in the context of race and culture but would not do the same for ‘white.’ The AP said, ‘white people in general have much less shared history and culture, and don’t have the experience of being discriminated against because of skin color.’ This coincides with the publication of the 55th edition of the AP Stylebook.

Finding Photography and Journalism Jobs Online
Phlearn’s 31 Places to Find Freelance Photography Jobs Online is a great read even though it was released a year ago. I’ve been using many sites in the list for years but quite a few were new to me!
Reddit’s /r/Journalism, /r/JournalismJobs, and /r/PhotographyJobs also have a few nuggets if you’re lucky enough to catch a post just as it goes up. /r/Photography also has the occasional job discussion if you can power through the rest of the noise. And, while not photography-centric, /r/FreelanceWriters and /r/FindAPath feature some interesting threads as well.
Canon has also introduced their Image Connect service to help all photographers, no matter what camera gear they use, to continue to grow their business. Image Connect matches prospective clients with photographers and is currently running a Summer promo.
